The Junior School provides a stimulating learning environment with small numbers of students in each classroom, giving all students access to personalised learning.
Our Structured Literacy Approach prepares every child to spell, write - and read! Learning to read and write is such an essential skill to not only find success in school and to thrive in society, but to also experience the joy that reading brings to life. We now know a great deal about how the brain develops as we learn to read and what instructional practices are most effective for all children. We are committed to stop doing what doesn’t work and be guided by scientific research to ensure that we deliver on the promise of literacy for every BTC student. It’s an exciting time to be in education and we value our parents as our partners!
In delivering Math, teachers have expertise with diagnostic and communicative skills to understand how students react. Teachers adapt lessons or intervene on behalf of students. Learning is a social activity and requires a constant dialogue, a discourse that cannot happen if a student is placed in front of a device with headphones. Our programs provide opportunities to apply learning across real problems, open investigations and enrichment activities, so students gain a deep understanding, fluency of skills and applications of mathematics.
Our Kindy class focuses on establishing vital foundations so your child receives the best possible start to their education. Our approach values the learning opportunities created through play. Collaboration provides cooperation, interaction and mutual respect, enhancing opportunities for learning. Emotional resilience, a positive self-image and a growth mindset help the learner set and work towards challenging goals. Teachers provide a stimulating environment for children within a program based on individual progression. This environment is a place where children feel loved, accepted and secure and so feel confident to grow, express themselves and develop their abilities.
Extending the capacity for thinking and learning
Our aim is to develop students with the learning skills and positive personal attitude that is necessary for accepting the challenges of a quickly changing world. This means equipping students with a wide range of traditional academic and technological skills.
Even more important is the development of critical thinking skills, including the willingness to consider a range of options and select the most appropriate. This equips children with the skills necessary to make informed choices.
We encourage students to be active learners, which means taking an active role in their own learning.
Located in Charters Towers, North Queensland, we offer co-educational learning from Kindy to Year 12 with Boarding facilities.
