Sport

Sport at BTC is a central feature of student life and many life skills including teamwork, co-operation, sportsmanship and the striving for success are gained from an involvement in sporting activity.

Blackheath & Thornburgh College is a member of the Charters Towers Secondary and Primary Sports Associations and participates in a year-round Inter-school sports programme of competition – a comprehensive Inter-house competition is also held throughout the year.

We have a wide range of sports on offer and our passionate, experienced teachers organise training sessions, team practice and wider competitions within an inclusive and supportive structure. Examples of the sports we play throughout the year include:

  • Athletics
  • Cricket
  • Rugby League
  • Softball
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Netball
  • Swimming (we have our own outdoor pool)
  • Cross Country

Students also have the opportunity to participate in local club sports including: Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Touch Football, Golf and Basketball. Opportunities also exist for students to gain selection in district, regional and state teams.

The Arts

Students have the opportunity to be involved in the College’s Arts Programme. This includes Visual Art, Drama and Music.

Debating/Public Speaking

We also have an enviable reputation in the area of Debating and Public Speaking. Junior and Senior Debating teams compete against other Charters Towers Schools in regular debates. Students are actively encouraged to be involved in Public Speaking competitions, such as Rostrum, Voice of Youth and Lions Youth of the Year.

Located in Charters Towers, North Queensland, we offer co-educational learning from Kindy to Year 12 with Boarding facilities.
