Sport & Activities
Sport at BTC is a central feature of student life and many life skills including teamwork, co-operation, sportsmanship and the striving for success are gained from an involvement in sporting activities.
Blackheath & Thornburgh College is a member of the Charters Towers Secondary and Primary Sports Associations and participates in a year-round Interschool sports program of competition – a comprehensive Interhouse competition is also held throughout the year.
We have a wide range of sports on offer and our passionate, experienced teachers organise training sessions, team practice and wider competitions within an inclusive and supportive structure. Examples of the sports we play throughout the year include:
- Athletics
- Cricket
- Rugby League
- Softball
- Soccer
- Tennis
- Netball
- Swimming (we have our own outdoor pool)
- Cross Country
Students also have the opportunity to participate in local club sports including: Swimming, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Touch Football, Golf and Tennis. Opportunities also exist for students to gain selection in district, regional and state teams.
In addition to the wide range of sport on offer, BTC provides other co-curricular activities that are accessible to our secondary students. These include:
- Interact Club
- Cattle Club
- Pedal Prix Team
- Eisteddfod
- Billy Cart Derby
There is something for everyone at Blackheath & Thornburgh College.
Northern Sport
Welcome to the 2025 Northern School Sport information and calendar. Northern School Sport provides representative opportunities for students aged 10-19 years.
The Northern Region incorporates 134 schools and offers representative opportunities for state and non-state school students from Year 5 to Year 12. Multi-class athletes are included in primary and secondary teams. Each year approximately 270 primary students and 570 secondary students are selected to represent the Northern Region.
Further information can be found at https://northernsport.eq.edu.au/
Students will receive an email notifying them of a sporting trial. In addition, the trial will also be advertised in the School & Parent Notices. Trials are also advertised on the Sentral Calendar.
If your son or daughter wishes to trial for an advertised sport, they must complete the required paperwork, which will be attached to their email. Please note that students must already be actively participating in the sport and possess a good skill set.
Once paperwork is complete, please return it to the office for the Principal to sign. Payment of an $11 trial fee is also required. This $11 can be paid by either cash or card, but must be paid on submission of paperwork to the office. Transport will be arranged for boarders.
The 2025 Northern School Sport Calendar is attached. The calendar details the sport, regional trial date and State championship dates for this year.
Should you have any queries regarding Northern Sport, please don't hesitate to contact Ms Emme Wild, Co-Curricular Activities Coordinator at ewild@btc.qld.edu.au.
