About the Role

We're looking for a passionate individual to join us as a Co-Curricular Coordinator on an ongoing, full-time basis starting in Term 2, 2025. At Blackheath & Thornburgh College, we recognise the vital role that co-curricular programs play in providing a well-rounded education. Our co-curricular program offers students the chance to enhance their learning, social skills, self-awareness, wellbeing, and sense of community.

As the Co-Curricular Coordinator, you'll oversee both internal (House and other activities) and external (inter-school/representative) programs, guiding staff and students to deliver an engaging and inclusive co-curricular experience across sporting, community, cultural, creative and performing arts.

This role includes leadership time release and requires flexibility to work outside regular school hours to manage activities, performances, meetings, events, and functions. The position offers a generous salary, with potential relocation assistance and housing support due to our boarding school setting.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the school's co-curricular programs, ensuring high levels of student engagement.
  • Coordinate sports administration and co-curricular activities across Junior and Secondary levels.
  • Foster collaboration among staff to boost student participation in various programs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrate leadership in managing teams, inspiring staff and students to excel in co-curricular activities. 

Position Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Registration with Queensland College of Teachers, if a teacher.
  • First aid certificate.

Kindy Teacher (Maternity Contract)

Blackheath & Thornburgh College is seeking applications from passionate and enthusiastic educators looking to join our Kindy team. In collaboration with the Educational Leader/Director, the Kindy Teacher is responsible for the development, implementation and reflection of the educational program to provide a high-quality program for all children and families. This role is a full time (term time), temporary non-ongoing position commencing on 19 May 2025 and finishing on 5 December 2025. Other ongoing opportunities may be available at completion of contract.

The role of the Kindy Teacher:

  • Provide leadership and support to educators and staff within the team, in line with relevant regulations, policies and procedures, build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, educators, staff, and management to deliver best outcomes for families and children.
  • Successful applicant must have a degree in Early Childhood from a recognised University and current QLD Teachers registration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and/or My Time Our Place Framework, Education and Care Services National Law (2010) and Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011)

Kindy Teacher Aide/Educator

Blackheath & Thornburgh College is seeking applications from passionate and enthusiastic educators looking to join our Kindy team. The role is term time (38 weeks per year, 30 hours per week) and is an ongoing permanent position. The role will commence Tuesday 22 April 2025 (Term 2).

The role of the Kindy Educator:

  • The Kindy educator will support the teaching, learning and development of our Kindy students.
  • They will work with the teacher, developing and obtaining resources, supervising students and participating in teaching activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Successful applicant must have Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent)

Teach in the Towers

Cadetship

Ever wondered what it would be like to teach Rural? Never had the chance to explore North QLD? Then this is the opportunity for you. The Teach in the Towers Cadetship program has been introduced to provide a fully supportive and immersive learning experience for pre-service teachers in the Education hub of Charters Towers. With a long tradition of servicing families from North West QLD, Cape and Torres Strait Island communities, Blackheath & Thornburgh College are inviting applications from enthusiastic, passionate and aspiring educators to experience what rural education has to offer.

A successful applicant will have the opportunity to observe, teach, learn and live in our fantastic education setting. Cadet teachers will complete 5 weeks in classrooms in a support capacity getting to know our students and understand our community, followed by the completion of the QUT placement for the remainder of the Term.

Permission to Teach (PTT)

The possibilities are endless...

Quality education offerings are an integral part of many rural communities and provide amazing opportunities for early career teachers to launch their careers. The PTT process through QCT provides Blackheath & Thornburgh College the power to immerse aspiring teachers in a supportive and inclusive school environment to give them authentic opportunities and invaluable practical experiences that can help prepare them for the future.  

Where vacancies exist that are unable to be filled by registered teachers and a suitable pre-service teacher or skilled individual is available, the College will work closely with QCT to submit an application for a PTT. Once approved, PTTs can deliver classes to pre-approved subject or year groups for a period of up to 2 years.
